As the community of developers using the Intel® DPDK grows, the new dpdk.org open-source project will encourage innovative collaboration and enable participating companies to offer specialized support.

6WIND, the gold standard for data plane processing in software-defined networks, today announced the establishment of an open-source project that provides a comprehensive set of resources to accelerate the development of Intel architecture-based networking products. At dpdk.org, engineers can find libraries, drivers, documentation, development mailing list, git repository and support relevant to high-performance packet processing using the Intel® Data Plane Development Kit (Intel® DPDK) software. As the founder of dpdk.org and a major contributor to the project, 6WIND will discuss its Intel® DPDK solutions and services in booth 401 at the Open Networking Summit in Santa Clara, CA from April 15th through 17th.

In telecom, enterprise and cloud applications, the latest high-performance Intel® architecture processors are an increasingly viable foundation for packet processing, thanks to continued improvements in their architectures combined with software enhancements provided by the Intel® DPDK, which is a set of optimized libraries and drivers provided to OEMs under a BSD licensing model.

Since the launch of the Intel® DPDK, several software companies have introduced extensions to its baseline functions as well as initiatives that provide professional services and technical support to developers. For example, 6WIND has developed strong expertise in leveraging the Intel® DPDK as a result of optimizing its 6WINDGate data plane solution, comprising Layer 2, IP forwarding, virtual routing, IPsec, firewall, Large Scale NAT and TCP termination, to run on that platform. Resources from these companies are accessible via dpdk.org, along with patches from other developers within the open-source Intel® DPDK community.
