LeadsCouncil, an independent association serving and advancing the needs of the online lead-generation industry, has named Joeri Weyenberg, vice president of marketing at Kaplan University, as its 2013 Executive of the Year Award winner. The announcement was made at the LeadsCon conference in Las Vegas in March.

Nominees for the award needed to exhibit an adherence to a high standard for lead-generation best practices, exceed customer expectations and improve the lead-generation ecosystem. LeadsCouncil members each had one vote to cast on one of 18 nominees.

“I was genuinely surprised to win the award,” Weyenberg said. “The other 17 nominated executives are all very visionary and accomplished CEOs and leaders in their field, each of them making a significant difference in the industries they operate in. Needless to say that I am very proud of winning the award.”

"We are elated to see Joeri win the first annual LeadsCouncil Executive of the Year Award,” said Michael Ferree, director of the LeadsCouncil. “His dedication to his company, the industry and his partners perfectly exemplifies the Executive of the Year award.”

Before stepping into the education industry in the U.S. about four years ago, Weyenberg spent more than 15 years driving strategy, product development and marketing for Fortune 500 companies in Europe, Asia and the Americas. “Learning to adapt to different cultures and different ways of doing business in different parts of the world has shaped who I am and how I reason,” Weyenberg said.

Though the education industry has been tumultuous in recent years, Weyenberg noted that the goal to put student first has not changed. “Everything we do on a daily basis is focused on making our students successful. It is part of our DNA, and we feel strongly that student success is not just the accountability of those who interact directly with students. So my biggest daily challenge is to ensure that we meet and exceed our students’ expectations, starting with that first interaction with a prospective student.”

Nominations for the LeadsCouncil Executive of the Year Award were open to members and non-members and explanations for why the nominated executive was deserving of the honor.

“As one of the largest lead buyers in the space, Joeri has utilized technology to attempt to make the space better, with more trusted transactions between lead buyers and lead sellers,” one nominator wrote. “Joeri has also been a mentor to many and helped several people success in their own right, which I always gauge as a key aspect of why one should be considered for an award like this.”

The future of lead generation, according to Weyenberg, will be about translating big data into actionable information and better predictive modeling. “This will invariably result in a better consumer experience, better consumer outputs and more happiness, trust and transparency in a perfectly imbalanced lead-generation world.”
