Spend less and waste less for one week.

By reducing the amount spent on food, you’re also reducing the amount you spend on packaging which will make a huge difference.

If there’s one thing you have to do this month, do it for just one week – by living off £1 a day with UNICEF’s Live Below The Line.

A campaign set up to challenge people’s perceptions in the UK about the topic of extreme poverty, the concept is simple. Spend just £1 a day on food for five days between 29 April and 3 May to understand how the poorest of communities manage, and not only will people spend less but they will also waste less – which is a message Orion Waste is keen to spread.

Managing Director of Orion Waste, John Stride, said: “We’re huge supporters of recycling materials as well as operating environmentally-friendly methods to waste management – so that’s why we’re happy to be backing a cause that adopts a ‘less is more’ approach. By reducing the amount spent on food, you’re also reducing the amount you spend on packaging which will make a huge difference.”

In 2012, more than 500 people in the UK helped raise £38,366 for UNICEF’s work for children – with individuals as well as groups participating in the scheme. Initially starting back in 2009 by Rich Fleming and Nick Allardice, Live Below The Line is one of the world’s most successful fundraising projects in the world today.

“It’s great to see how the waste industry has changed over the past twenty years we’ve been in service,” commented Stride.

“We found that each consumer has their own specific requirements, with the majority looking for ways to minimise their costs and global impact. With their help we’ve been able to tailor their solutions that benefits them and the environment – as well as refine existing techniques for an overall improved experience.”

Such examples include providing office clearance or compactor hire services, all at competitive prices. As London’s biggest waste disposal business, Orion Waste leads the way for expert and professional assistance across the south east of England – delivering waste management and recovery solutions for both commercial and domestic customers.

And to encourage the use of free recycling, as part of the Orion rubbish disposal London initiative any customer choosing to sign up with the company will immediately receive 100 recycling bags – absolutely free.
