On April 17, Spartan Race commends all of the individuals who completed the 8-mile Las Vegas Reebok Super Spartan this past weekend.
Spartan Race considers their first trip to Las Vegas to be one for the record books. According to the Spartan Blog, the Las Vegas race had the single most competitive line-up of Elite racers ever seen in Spartan Race’s history.
On the men’s side, Hobie Call would take home first place by a narrow margin. The duel for second place during the men’s Elite heat came down to four hundredths of a second, with Cody Moat edging out Hunter McIntyre. The women’s Elite heat also had a nail-biting finish, where the top three finishers were separated by less than two minutes. April Luu crossed the finish line in first, with Tyann Clark and Amelia Boone right behind her.
Outside of the Elites, the Spartan blog mentions other stories as well. Ex-military servicemen Brian Riley and Lionte Stores flew out to Vegas to compete in the obstacle course race. The two servicemen both lost a limb, but they didn’t let that stop them from competing in the Las Vegas mud.
UFC fighter Jamie Varner also competed in the Super Spartan, and vowed to return to compete again after calling it his “new addiction.”
Joe De Sena, founder of Spartan Race, commented on the race in Las Vegas. “Vegas turned out to be a phenomenal race. We’ve never had a more competitive Elite heat, and the winners on both the men’s and women’s Elite heats were decided by mere seconds. We can’t wait to return in 2014!”
Spartan Race, voted Outside Magazine’s Best Obstacle Race in 2012, is the world’s leading obstacle race series and the first of its kind to have global rankings.
