We wanted a fun, family-friendly way to blend our love of running with our love of animals.
St. Paul, MN (PRWEB) April 11, 2013
After much success in its first year, raising over $10,000 for Home for Life Animal Sanctuary, the 2nd annual Fast and the Furry event is looking to help two other Minnesota charities. The 2013 event hopes to raise $20,000 for The Pet Project MN (http://www.thepetprojectmn.org) and Gentle Touch Animal Sanctuary (http://www.gt-as.org).
The unique model of the event brings together runners, animal lovers and local pet-friendly businesses. Participants run or walk in either the 8K or 5K9 event and are encouraged to meet and engage with local animal businesses that showcase themselves in the vendor expo area.
"The idea for this event all started shortly after we launched our race management business." says Mark Kuhn, owner of UpTempo Race Management (http://www.uptemporacemanagement.com). "We wanted a fun, family-friendly way to blend our love of running with our love of animals. This event gives everyone a chance to participate. The first year we had people running with their dogs, walking, we had dogs in strollers, dogs in baby carriers, it was more fun and more successful than we expected it would be."
With local major sponsors Bubbly Paws, Pampered Pooch and Stunt Puppy, registration for the 2013 event is nearly 3x ahead of the 2012 event and online fundraising by event participants and supporters has already surpassed $10,000.
