Approximately, there are over 970 million Facebook users and over 500 million Twitter users around the world. Facebook estimates that its site has over 680 million active monthly users, whilst Twitter has recorded that over a billion ‘tweets’ are sent every 72 seconds. (Source: MediaBistro.com).

In an article in The Guardian in March 2013, a sales representative from Tupperware in France, Thierry Goupil, explained how social media has played a part in helping to attract new customers for a brand which is normally associated with a female, middle-aged demographic through “party sales” “There's a social side to party sales you don't get in shops,” stated Goupil. With the help of French site Seedbees, a site that attracts one in five of its sales recruits that are under the age of 25, Goupil can now target a new audience for the brand.

Whilst the new site has helped the company to offer a better service to its existing customers and helped to attract new business, it is now exploring the possibility of increasing its activity on social networking sites.
