Private Detectives Manchester comment on the importance of making dog owners accountable for attacks that happen in their own home in light of BBC News article dated 9th April 2013: Dangerous Dogs: Government to act on attacks on private property

people who own any type of dog should be responsible for it in all aspects including discipline, clearing up its waste and its general welfare etc.

According to the BBC News report dated 9th April 2013 dog owners in England and Wales will no longer be immune from prosecution for attacks on their own property under new proposals from the government. At the moment the law only covers attacks in public places and prohibited areas, failure to abide by the law could result in the dog owner being given a custodial sentence of up to 2 years.

The BBC News report goes on to say that out of control dogs are a huge threat, even on private property and the government plans are hoping to include private property dog attacks and attacks on assistance dogs in the Dangerous Dogs Act. However there will be no protection for burglars and other trespassers who enter someone’s property uninvited and are attacked by the family dog.

Private detectives, Private Detectives Manchester believe this new act will help to protect a lot of people from being attacked in someone else’s home or on someone else’s property where an out of control dog lives. For postal workers a vicious dog waiting for them to put mail through the letter box is a traumatic part of their job and it is the owner’s responsibility to keep their animal under control. Private Detectives Manchester has often been called on to carry out surveillance operations to report and record incidences involving unsociable neighbours and their out of control dogs. If the Dangerous Dogs Act introduced these new plans a lot of people from neighbours to delivery workers would be a lot safer.

Spokesperson from Private Detectives Manchester, Mary Rogers said:
“In my professional opinion people who own any type of dog should be responsible for it in all aspects including discipline, clearing up its waste and its general welfare, etc.”
