Indianapolis IN (PRWEB) April 11, 2013
On the drive home, fresh from an initial franchise discovery meeting, Gary Pedigo had already made the decision to purchase his franchise, Fresh Coat Painters of Indianapolis West. The decision was made easy, Gary noted, in part because of the nature of the industry and Fresh Coat’s business model.
“Everybody needs to paint; painting is all but recession-proof,” he observed. “Whether it’s when new construction is booming or remodeling during a recession. That’s where Fresh Coat comes in. I was looking for a franchise that I could grow and I wasn’t looking to re-invent the wheel. The key was finding a franchise that was a good fit.”
Gary researched various franchises before deciding on Fresh Coat because of its low startup costs, extensive and ongoing training, flexible time requirements, and “tried and proven” business structure. It was that professional structure that most impressed him, he said.
“Our structure ensures clients get the best skills of all involved,” said Bernard Brozek, president of Fresh Coat Painters. “Our owners promote and grow the business while client service managers and experienced painters provide the best in quality and service for clients. These services are always in demand, but the industry has been tarnished by too many fly-by-night operators.”
“We also use only employees, never subcontractors,” Brozek said, “So, our painters know they’ll have the stability of an organized, professional operation where they’ll have work year-round. And, we help promote that stability through quality marketing, training and resource materials for our franchise owners.”
With Fresh Coat, owners have a range of corporate offerings that support their clients and make the process smoother, including a 24/7 call center, proprietary EPIC quoting system, Paint Now-Pay Later same-as-cash financing, Automatic Touch-Up for businesses, and fund-raising opportunities for charities.
Growing up on a farm in central Indiana and then having owned his own contracting business, Gary was no stranger to the demands and rigors of owning a small business and honed many practical skills with on-the-job experience. “Growing up on a farm, you had to be a jack of all trades. After our farming operation went out of business due to the economy in the 1970s and ‘80s, it seemed like a natural transition into contracting,” Gary said. In the intervening years he spent several years working in the automotive manufacturing industry before opting to venture back into the small business field.
“I realized at some time before I retire that I wanted another crack at owning my own business,” Gary said. Buying a Fresh Coat franchise was an investment in his family’s future – his youngest son, Adam, serves a vital role as he provides most of the quotes, and acts as the client service manager. Gary’s wife Pam is also an integral part of the team.
A recent graduate of Purdue University, Adam said that working in the painting industry is familiar territory. “I grew up around the construction business, so everything I learned about the industry, I learned from my Dad,” he noted. “I’m doing about 85 percent of the quotes and following up with the painters and making sure that our customers are satisfied.”
“We officially launched on January 25 – that was the start of the Indiana Home & Garden Show, with 100,000 people in attendance. We also participated in the Indiana Flower & Patio Show,” Adam said. Those two events generated a tremendous amount of leads and word-of-mouth business and the father-and-son duo quickly found themselves in need of an experienced painter.
“The first painter we hired had years of experience in residential and commercial painting and he’s worked out beautifully. We have hired a second painter and we’re now pursuing painter number three,” Gary observed.
“It has been exciting and fast paced,” Gary said. “We’re extremely happy and looking forward to growing.”
