Sellers Dorsey CEO Testifies in Support of Domestic Partnership Benefit Tax Credit

Harvey Hurdle, Sellers Dorsey CEO, testified before the Philadelphia City Council yesterday on the economic and business opportunities created by offering domestic partner health benefits. Upon invitation from the Philadelphia City Council, Mr. Hurdle’s testimony gave support to a proposed ordinance providing a non-refundable tax credit to businesses that offer domestic partner health benefits to employees and their families.

The tax credit is part of a larger bill addressing discrimination against individuals based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. Introduced by Council members James F. Kenney and W. Wilson Goode, Jr., the tax credit will apply to businesses that offer health care benefits to life partners of their employees and the children of life partners. The credit will be capped at $2 million.

Additionally, 62% of Fortune 500 companies offer domestic partnership benefits to their employees, according to the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index.
