There's lots of group lessons happening at the Ottawa Folklore Centre during April and May. Over the next couple months, OFC Music will be hosting workshops for guitar, ukulele, banjo and hand drumming. There will even be specialty seminars focusing on guitar pedals, yoga and music, blues greats B.B., Freddie & Albert King, an Irish Music Session and a couple of open jam sessions too. Guitar Pedals with Tony D. Saturday April 20th, 2:00-4:00 p.m. Join award-winning guitarist Tony D. for an afternoon discussion of pedals and amps (but mostly pedals).
Clawhammer Banjo Lessons with Paul Hornbeck starting Monday April 22. These ongoing lessons will be available Monday nights for beginners intermediates and advanced players.
Beginner Guitar for Adults with Kurt Walther (eight-week course) Wednesday nights from 7:00-8:00 p.m starting April 24th. In Guitar for beginners part 1, Kurt offers a relaxed experience for adults who have always wanted to learn how to play the guitar.
I Got Rhythm (Hand Drums and Percussion) with Don Gibbons (eight-week course) Thursday nights from 6:00-7:00 p.m, starting April 25th. I Got Rhythm is an eight-week group class for people of all ages who want to learn about rhythm and partake in group hand drumming.
Group Bodhran for Beginners with Martha Cooper (four-week course) Thursday nights from 6:30-7:30 p.m., starting April 25th. In this class, Martha will teach the basics of playing the Bodhran.
Group Djembe Class with Salah Adam Thursday nights from 7:00-8:00 p.m., starting April 25th. Join Salah Adam for an eight-week journey into playing the djembe.
Open Bluegrass Jam with Paulie Roberto Sunday April 28th, 2:00-4:00 p.m. Join Paul (aka Paulie), multi-instrumentalist and leader of Ottawa bluegrass sensation the Dusty Drifters, for a friendly beginner to intermediate player bluegrass jam. All ages and instruments welcome.
Old Time Slow Jam with Paul Hornbeck Friday May 3rd, 7:00-9:00 p.m. OFC clawhammer banjo teacher Paul Hornbeck will lead an evening of old-time favorites, played at a moderate pace.
Irish Session Workshop with Ken Harper & Alexis MacIsaac Saturday May 4, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Join fiddler Alexis MacIsaac and bodhran player Ken Harper for an afternoon of live music, technique and conversation about playing traditional Irish music in a session setting.
The Yoga of Sound with Teresa Doyle Saturday May 4, 3:00-5:00 p.m. Prince Edward Island singer Teresa Doyle is offering a workshop on The Yoga of Sound leading a class focused on music, movement, meditation and mantra – using singing as a tool for health and well being.
Intro to Ukulele with Joel Jacques (four-week course) starting Monday May 6, 6:30-7:30 p.m. This introduction to the Ukulele is for those picking up the ukulele for the first time. Students will learn to play the ukulele as an accompaniment to voice and sing popular songs together in a group setting.
We Three Kings with Tony D. Saturday May 11, 18 & 25, 2:00-4:00 p.m. Juno and Maple Blues award winning guitarist Tony D will spend some time exploring the guitar styles of the Three Kings of blues guitar; B.B. King, Albert King, and of course, Freddie King.
