April 13 marks the Grand Opening of Highmark Stadium, the nation's newest soccer stadium, located in Station Square, Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh Riverhounds call Highmark Stadium home, and the team will kick off their 2013 USL PRO Season this day.

April 13 marks the Grand Opening of Highmark Stadium, the nation's newest soccer stadium, located in Station Square, Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh Riverhounds call Highmark Stadium home, and the team will kick off their 2013 USL PRO Season this day.

Highmark Stadium will open with a Ribbon Cutting event on the field at 5:30 PM with local dignitaries and sponsors, followed by activities for all ticket holders. Pre-game activities include Mercury Band -- entertaining and playing on the patio. Post-game events feature an elaborate fireworks display by Pyrotecnico.

Highmark Stadium, accommodating 4,000 fans, is Pittsburgh’s first-ever downtown soccer stadium, and it sits along the banks of the Monongahela River capturing the vibrant life of the City as well as its breathtaking views. The Stadium includes 15 privately sponsored suites, and Starting 11 Club, a full-service bar and restaurant. All fans will take home a special opening day commemorative Riverhounds scarf.

Almost one year ago, January 2012, the ownership group of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Professional Soccer Club announced plans to construct this state-of-the-art multi-sport and entertainment venue in Pittsburgh. The Stadium will serve primarily as the home field for the Riverhounds. It will also be the principal training facility for the club’s youth programs.

“It’s what we’ve all been waiting for… opening day,” said Melissa Lazar. “Highmark Stadium was an awesome vision of its owners not too long ago, and today Highmark Stadium is an entertainment complex that will soon become a tradition for young and old alike.”
