Words cannot sufficiently express the work of John Fontana, this year’s Treatment Award recipient, and the difference he has made in the lives of problem gamblers and their families.
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) April 10, 2013
John Fontana, president of Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa, was recently awarded with the Treatment Award from the Florida Council on Compulsive Gambling (FCCG) at its 25th anniversary gala held at the DoubleTree Hilton Orlando on April 5. The Treatment Award was created to recognize an individual or organization that has significantly furthered treatment services or supports to the problem gambling population in Florida. This is the first time a member of the gaming industry has been recognized with the award.
“Words cannot sufficiently express the work of John Fontana, this year’s Treatment Award recipient, and the difference he has made in the lives of problem gamblers and their families,” said Paul Ashe, president of the FCCG. “While most individuals give lip service to the concern for problem gamblers, he has long proved his dedication to the cause on an ongoing basis.”
In addition to being a member of the FCCG’s Board of Directors for over 10 years and currently serving as its vice president, Fontana spearheaded the initiative which secured funding from the Seminole Tribe of Florida, resulting in accessible treatment for persons in need of help for a gambling problem within Florida. The FCCG presented its first Treatment Award 10 years ago.
To support those individuals with a compulsion to gamble, the Seminole Tribe of Florida operates a Self-Exclusion Program. The program was established to allow people with a gambling problem to voluntarily exclude themselves from casino gaming activities in all Seminole Casinos. Also, in collaboration with the FCCG, the Seminole Tribe of Florida is proud to help fund 1.888.ADMIT.IT, Florida's 24-hour toll-free helpline for casino players with a compulsion to gamble. The helpline is used in ads and on all marketing materials for the Seminole Casinos.
