AMG Strategic Advisors, the growth strategy consulting unit of Acosta Sales & Marketing, continues its strategy of bringing in deeply experienced, senior-level personnel, with the appointment of Mark Scott to the position of EVP, Shopper Strategy. Scott is widely recognized throughout the industry, and is frequently quoted in major trade publications. With more than 20 years of combined experience in marketing, sales, finance, agency, and change management, he is widely sought after for commentary and insight by major retail brands and industry groups.

After joining Acosta Sales & Marketing three years ago as EVP of Marketing Service Operations, Scott originally focused on Integrated Marketing Services. However, he soon became involved in all aspects of the agency. He joins AMG Strategic Advisors bringing along his collective agency experience and client relationships, giving him insight to the Shopper Marketing world.

Prior to Acosta, Scott held executive positions at Kimberly-Clark, where he worked on some of the best known brands, including Huggies, Kleenex, Scott, Pull-ups, and Depend. He led the team that launched Scott Extra Soft bath tissue, with year one retail sales in excess of $100 million; and also led the launch of parentstages.com, an award-winning online network for the best parenting information on the web. He has also been recognized by “Who’s Who in Shopper Marketing” in 2009, 2010, and 2012. In 2011, he was inducted into the Path to Purchase Institute’s Hall of Fame.

Scott will join AMG's team of highly experienced industry executives, many of whom come from leading companies such as Kraft, S.C. Johnson, and Wrigley; and high profile consultancies such as Accenture, Bain, and A.T. Kearney.

“Every company defines shopper marketing differently,” said Scott. “Many of them dabble in this area so that they are able to include it to their list of services. However, companies need to get serious about how they want to organize shopper marketing.”

Scott shared his insight regarding the direction of shopper marketing, outlining a few specific areas. He explained that in the past, a number of companies would have many different individual promotions and programs, without communication. “Without coordination, individual promotions miss an opportunity to make a big, collective impact in the marketplace,” said Scott. Going forward, there will be more collaboration for success.

Additionally, Scott addressed the emerging trends in digital, explaining that companies will start focusing on understanding how to implement digital into their marketing. Rather than focusing on a specific strategy, digital tactics will begin to integrate as part of a holistic marketing plan. “Shopper marketing as a whole, is moving toward the necessity for collaborative media,” said Scott. “People have talked about 360 holistic marketing for a long time, but now it is time to do it.”
