Temperature is one of the crucial environmental variables that are monitored to not only ensure optimum IT equipment performance but also ensure energy efficient operations.
The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), server manufacturers and various IT groups all publish and recommend temperature ranges for data center temperature. Servers have self-regulating fans, data centers are air conditioned and electronic temperature monitoring is available and widely used. It is well documented that heat is the enemy of electronic equipment and environmental monitoring is crucial to maintain efficient data center performance.
The recommended range for the entire “A” class which is data centers with volume servers and storage centers is 18 to 27⁰C. B and C classifications encompass home computers and point of sale/ factory terminals.
The Digitemp Horizontal Thermometer is a liquid crystal self- adhesive thermometer (17⁰C to 29⁰C) that covers the recommended temperature range for data centers and allows for individual server monitoring, delivering a thermal map of the data center and provides the staff / technicians with visual evidence as to individual server temperature. This very low-cost, no-maintenance instrument continuously monitors temperature and will complement existing electronic monitoring systems.
Digitemp is 3.5 x .5 inches with an easy to read dual Fahrenheit / Celsius scale accurate to +/- 1°C and supplied with an adhesive back. It contains no glass, batteries or mercury and can be custom-made to individual specifications.
