1000Museums announced today that the company had reached the century mark with respect to its rapidly growing network of world-class museums. Brendan Burns, the CEO of 1000Museums, said, “The 1KM team has done an incredible job over the past four years establishing the first online network of world-class museums. The growth and vitality of this group is truly impressive. Like any network we all become stronger with every new member.”
Over the past several months, new museums joining 1KM include: Ackland Art Museum, Art Gallery of NSW, CT Historical Society, Currier Art Museum, Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, Harn Museum of Art, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Kimbell Art Museum, Melbourne Museum, Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, National Gallery of Victoria – Melbourne, Pera Museum – Istanbul, Queensland Art Gallery, Rijksmuseum, San Diego History Center, National Museum of Contemporary Art - Athens Greece, Telfair Museums, USC Libraries, and the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
Additionally the company formally announced the creation of the 1KM Network. Kirsten Soderlind, founder and Chief Creative Officer of 1000Museums said, “It has long been my dream to help museums share with art lovers around the world the wonderful art and knowledge that has long been confined to a single institution. For the past four years we have been building relationships and technology that supports that vision. As our network gets bigger our museums will share content in the form of images and information with each other and the public in a way that builds audience engagement and opens new revenue streams for museums.”
1000Museums is dedicated to building the largest and most robust network of museums online in the world. Currently we have over 100 museums in the network including the Guggenheim, MFA Houston, LACMA and van Gogh Museum. We work closely with our network partners to clear rights around art, bring their art online and make it more easily accessible to the public. By offering archival quality reproductions of world-class art to museum and online visitors we help museums generate additional revenue from their most important asset and create new art lovers everywhere.
