This is an issue that needs to be discussed, and if I can help just one person, then it’s all worthwhile.
New Orleans, LA (PRWEB) April 17, 2013
What started out as a writing project to help author Taymika G. Byrd deal with her abuse turned into a personal cause to reach as many people as possible with a message of hope and recovery. Over half of all sexual assaults committed are never reported and over 90% all offenders never spend a day in jail (http://www.rainn.org/statistics). Through her book, Crescent City Connection, Byrd delivers a powerful message that not only is victory over the trauma of sexual assault possible, but it is necessary. The Crescent City Connection Kickstarter project is raising $9,000 to self publish the book in digital, print and audio book formats to deliver that message to as many people affected by sexual assault as possible.
Everyone in today’s society is affected by sexual assault. With an assault occurring once every two minutes, it seems impossible to not at least know someone who has been victimized. Unfortunately, sexual assaults are often the least talked about crimes committed. It is the lack of communication and awareness that makes addressing these crimes and the mental and emotional suffering they cause so difficult. Ms. Byrd hopes to capture the attention of sexual assault victims and their loved ones and educate them to their ability to find help and overcome the trauma and emotional fallout in a non-threatening approach.
Throughout April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Taymika will be raising the funds necessary to self publish her book in print, as an e-book and as an audio book to reach the greatest audience possible , "This is an issue that needs to be discussed, and if I can help just one person, then it’s all worthwhile.”
