Colleen’s Dream Foundation has launched the Beyond Ovarian Cancer blog, to support the Colleen’s Dream Foundation’s educational and fundraising efforts to fight ovarian cancer, according to Nicole Drury Cundiff.

“Colleen's Dream is more than an idea,” says Nicole. “The Dream is for women of all ages to have a reliable early detection test for ovarian cancer, which can be the difference between saving and losing lives. The Beyond Ovarian Cancer blog is going to document and support that effort.”

Colleen’s Dream Foundation started in 2012 and supports research for early detection and improved treatment for ovarian cancer. When it comes to women’s health, ovarian cancer proves to be the deadliest gynecological cancer and the fifth deadliest disease.

Nicole says it's important to provide more humane, effective treatment options for those women with late stage ovarian cancer. She says the Beyond Ovarian Cancer blog, which evolved from the Colleen’s Journey blog, is the next step in the personal journey for her, and her sisters, who recently lost their mother to ovarian cancer.

"The Colleen’s Journey blog started when our mom was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer as a way to keep our friends and family up to date on our mom's condition,” says Nicole. “Over time, it evolved into a journal of both her experience with cancer, and her life and adventures.”

“Colleen’s Journey documents all of our struggles and blessings over the last five years, and people across the world have lived our experience through the blog,” she says. “Our mom's story is honest and inspiring, and it serves as the core of our passion for funding research.”

Nicole says the Beyond Ovarian Cancer blog is a natural extension of the Colleen’s Journey blog. She says all posts from Colleen’s Journey have been added to the Beyond Ovarian Cancer blog so people can see Colleen’s transition from her life, to her Dream.

“The Beyond Ovarian Cancer blog will not only give us an opportunity to express our feelings and experiences through our mom's disease and passing, but will also serve as a platform for sharing important information related to ovarian cancer treatment, research, and statistics."

Nicole’s sister Michelle says the Colleen’s Journey blog was a vital part of the family’s everyday life as they struggled with their mother’s cancer. Now, she says, they will be able to keep their mother’s dream alive in the Beyond Ovarian Cancer blog.

"The Colleen’s Journey blog was our family's way to share our mom's journey with ovarian cancer,” says Michelle. “People connected with her and her story. Blogging, although difficult at times, became therapeutic for my sisters and me. It was, and is, an effective tool to communicate the emotional highs and lows we have experienced since September 2007.”

Michelle adds, “As we move forward, we want to continue to share our family's story, including the challenges and blessings we face in light of her passing, as well as the many ways she continues to impact and influence our lives."

Colleen's Dream works with some of the top research hospitals and universities that are researching ovarian cancer by providing seed funding to the brightest young investigators.

Colleen's Dream Foundation is a qualified 501 (c)(3) tax exempt non-profit organization based in Phoenix, Arizona.
