A man has no more character than he can command in a time of crisis. - Ralph W. Sockman

There are two types of organizations: those that have faced a brand crisis and those that will. In this social media-driven, customer-empowered, instant-communication world, it only takes one unhappy client, one misunderstanding, or one mistake to damage a company's reputation, prospects, and bottom line--perhaps permanently.
When the inevitable crisis arrives, the way an enterprise communicates about it, internally and externally, presents the single greatest opportunity for brand renovation, renewal, and resurgence. To take advantage, decision-makers must understand, plan, and prepare for the risks an organization faces--well before it faces them.
Consider two infamous crises. First, recall the Tylenol poisoning scare of 1982. Today, it is widely recognized as a classic case study in successful crisis communication. Next, remember the Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1989. It is as widely recognized for being the opposite--a case study in crisis communication failure. As the saying goes, "There is no plan to fail, only failure to plan."
Creating and implementing a "what if" plan customized to an organization is a primary focus of the Life's Eyes Media "Crisis and Risk Communication" Workshop. Expert instructor, Butch Wardlaw, has conducted more than 100 such Workshops in the past five years. Wardlaw has also authored the program's core training materials, grounded in scientific study, academic research, and his own experience as a career communication professional.
Workshop participants gain a comprehensive understanding of crisis and risk communication fundamentals. They acquire specific "how to" knowledge about effective messaging, communication products, and stakeholder cultivation. Participants then solidify their new skills through extensive classroom exercises, supported by multimedia resources, facilitated discussions, and interactive evaluations. Workshop content has relevance beyond the communication professional, also benefiting thought leaders, managers, technical professionals, and administrators.
Workshop graduates report personal growth in capability and confidence, as well as organizational advancement in areas they impact. This includes overall improvement in navigating unexpected brand challenges.
"Crisis and Risk Communication" is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on May 30 and 31 at Life's Eyes Media Training Center in Lookout Corporate Center, 1717 Dixie Highway, Suite 150, Fort Wright, Kentucky, 41011.
