Entrants are in the short rows now to make the May 31 deadline for the Ninth Annual Veneer Tech Craftsman’s Challenge™, the international woodwork design competition with cash awards that highlights achievement in the use of natural wood veneer products in the categories of Architectural Woodworking, Cabinetry, Furniture, Specialty Products, Store Fixtures, and Student Design. There is no entry fee, and material need not have been sourced through Veneer Technologies to be eligible. Results will be announced at a reception beginning 5:00 P.M., Thursday, July 25 in Veneer Technologies' booth 4258 at the AWFS® Fair in Las Vegas, NV.
The Veneer Tech Craftsman’s Challenge recognizes all segments of the industry, from woodworking design professionals and students to distributors and sales representatives. A cash award of $3000 will be made to the creator of the grand prize winning entry. The distributor of the veneer for the grand prize winning entry will receive $2000, and the corresponding distributor salesman will receive $1000. Other category-winning entries receive $1000. Non-cash and special awards may be given at the judges’ discretion.
All entries must have been produced between January 2008-May 2013 and not previously entered in a Craftsman’s Challenge competition. Entry form and rules are found at http://www.veneertech.com. The 2013 judges are Dale Broholm, senior critic in the Department of Furniture Design at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD); and WoodLINKS board representatives Tim Fixmer, publisher of CabinetMaker+FDM, and Thomas Tuck, product and distribution manager with woodworking machinery manufacturer Casadei-Busellato.
