KegWorks, an ecommerce company specializing in tools for drinking since their inception in 1998, recently opened their first brick and mortar retail location. On April 12th and 13th, they hosted a pair of Grand Opening events meant to spark consumer interest and announce their arrival on the WNY retail scene.

The new KegWorks Store

This is a huge step for us. Most companies start with a brick and mortar store and then eventually move into ecommerce. We did it backwards, but we think we did it right.

Drinking hobbyists are part of a long suffering and deeply underserved market. KegWorks.com was launched in 1998 as an ecommerce company with designs on fixing that problem by providing easy access to all the best tools for drinking. Through the 15 years that the company has been in business, they’ve seen steady revenue gains and dynamic growth fueled by catering to their core identity: everything you need for your bar except the booze.

In early March 2013, the company officially opened the doors to its first traditional retail location. Located in front of their corporate offices in Kenmore, NY, the store is a must-see destination for home bar owners, homebrewers, cocktail experimenters, draft beer enthusiasts, and anyone else with an interest in liquid culture. This groundbreaking concept is the first brick and mortar store of its kind and KegWorks has high hopes for its success.

Tom McManus, KegWorks CEO, noted the excitement felt by the whole company. “This is a huge step for us. Most companies start with a brick and mortar store and then eventually move into ecommerce. We did it backwards, but we think we did it right.”

This past weekend, the company celebrated the official Grand Opening of the store with a pair of noteworthy events.

On Friday, April 12, a local Who’s Who of drinking culture dignitaries convened to rub elbows and check out exactly what the store is all about. David Rivers, KegWorks’ President and Minister of Culture, said, “We want to get people as excited about this as we are. I can try to describe the store in words, but the real ‘Wow factor’ doesn’t happen until you walk in and actually see the space.”

Among the parties who took an interest in this event was New York State Senator Mark Grisanti. Although he was unable to attend in person, he sent along a representative who unveiled a formal proclamation to declare that April 12 will henceforth be known as “KegWorks Day” in New York State.

Saturday, April 13 was Friends and Family Day for the employees of KegWorks. Both the store and corporate office space was opened to parents, siblings, cousins, neighbors, and anyone else that got the invite from one of KegWorks’ dedicated workers. Mark Crehan, a Customer Care Representative for the company, commented, “It’s a great chance for us to brag about the cool stuff we’ve got going on and let the people close to us see where we spend our days. I just hope my parents don’t yell at me for having a messy desk.”

Between the two events, close to 200 revelers and well-wishers were able to see the store for the first time and get a sense for what KegWorks is all about.

KegWorks: The Store is open Monday-Friday from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The address is 1460 Military Rd. Kenmore, NY 14217.
