Auto Manufacturers Rely on SmartMark High Temperature RFID Tags to Speed Up Paint Line

William Frick announces a new robust, cost-effective, high temperature RFID tag for powder paint processing at temperatures up to 400 degrees Farenheit.

Previous RFID tags had failed, and the manufacturer had almost given up on using identification tags.

William Frick & Company, a leading supplier of Radio Frequency ID (RFID) technology, announced availability of new SmartMark High Temperature Foam Backed RFID Tags to streamline manufacturing operations and improve quality control.

Frick’s SmartMark High Temperature RFID solution was developed for a large vehicle manufacturer to tag parts in the powder coating paint line, providing tracking and verification of process time and color. Because the time needed to process each part is dependent on the specific paint color, use of the tags helps ensure the highest possible quality. In addition, the manufacturer can speed up operations planning and cut production costs by streamlining the once laborious task of matching parts with the correct paint characteristics.

With the ability to withstand harsh chemicals and temperatures ranging from 250° to 400° F, SmartMark High Temperature Foam Backed RFID Tags offer an ideal solution for tracking and identifying parts through industrial high-temperature finishing processes, such as drying, curing, paint or powder coating lines. An aggressive, metal-mount adhesive on the foam-backed tags enables effortless and affordable tracking without damaging or tampering with the design of the part, and the consumable tag is simply discarded after the process.

Sturdy SmartMark labels can be customized for each application, including such information as a printed barcode, corporate logo, serial numbers and messages. The RFID tag will read directly on metal, and the label form factor also allows for human readable verification.
