Houndex Report: First Quarter Intent to Attend Conferences Up 3% vs. Fourth Quarter 2012

Conference Hound's quarterly Houndex reports that 56% of U.S. conference attendees plan to attend another conference in the next six months, up from 53% in the last quarter.

Conference Hound (http://www.conferencehound.com), the global conference discovery platform, published today the Conference Hound Index or Houndex for Q1 2013. The Houndex is the result of extensive online interviews of adult Americans and is intended to serve as a quarterly leading indicator of attendee intent for the conference and trade show industry.

The survey was conducted by Survata, an independent online market research service. Nearly 1,400 adult Americans participated in online interviews for the study. Respondents were first classified as “conference attendees” or not, based on whether they have attended a conference or trade showing the past 18 months. Of these “conference attendees,” 56.0% indicated that they plan to attend another conference in the next six months, up from 52.7% in the prior period. Furthermore, for CVBs and the travel and hospitality industry 55.7% of those planning to attend a conference in the next six months indicate their intent to travel over 100 miles from their homes to attend a conference or trade show, essentially flat vs. Q4 2012. The Houndex survey is conducted on a quarterly basis and is intended to provide the industry with leading market insight on conference attendee intent.

This survey was conducted for Conference Hound by Survata in March 2013 via online interviews of 1,396 U.S. adults. The margin of error for the percent of conference attendees who plan on attending another conference in the next six months is 3.1%, meaning one can say with 95% confidence that the percent of conference attendees who plan on attending another conference in the next six months is between 52.9% and 59.1%.
