Symbols of free-thinking, a global view, and the Age of Enlightenment are hidden in plain sight throughout Washington, D.C.
Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) April 18, 2013
Spirit Quest Tours is offering a unique six-day tour to Washington, D.C. in September that will introduce guests to the spiritual and symbolic sides of our nation’s capital, particularly those found on monuments, in government buildings and in the art and statues found throughout the city. The six-day adventure and exploration of American history is scheduled for Sept. 17 – 22, 2013. The tour is called “Esoteric America.”
Experts on the history and symbolism of D.C.’s architecture and Freemasonry will lead daily walking tours through the city and into many of the buildings, including one of the most iconic representations of esoteric thought: the Library of Congress.
Michael Long, one of the tour leaders and a 32nd degree mason, says the great monument of learning known as the Library of Congress, like many of the buildings throughout D.C., includes dozens of important symbols that were deliberately and artfully placed by designers illuminating the philosophy of the enlightenment.
“At the Library of Congress, the symbolism begins outside the Thomas Jefferson Building with a mythic tribute to the Court of Neptune, also known as King of the Unconscious and Lord of the Gateway to the Magical Realm. Then inside on the marble floor of the Great Hall there is a huge sun surrounded by the symbols of the Zodiac, and bronze statues in the reading room depict Francis Bacon, Plato, Newton, Moses and Homer,” Long says.
“It is completely possible to visit Washington D.C. and miss learning about the meaning of the art and architecture that was deliberately placed in, on and around the beautiful buildings and monuments, but the Founding Fathers knew exactly what they were doing, and there is a purpose to all of these symbols, which are literally hiding in plain sight,” explains Greg Roach, co-founder of Spirit Quest Tours.
Dozens of locations will be visited during the walking tours, including the National Gallery of Art, the Justice Building, the National Archives, the Department of Commerce, the Old Post Office, the Ellipse, the White House and the Washington Monument.
“Obviously the Washington Monument is an obelisk of Egyptian design, but why as this symbol chosen?” Long says. “Some mysteries are less easy to spot. For example, painted on the ceiling of the Capitol rotunda is the Apotheosis of Washington, showing the first president mingling with a host of Greek Gods, including America’s own Goddess Columbia," says Long.
In addition to the walking tours within D.C., guests will enjoy dining at some of the oldest restaurants and pubs in the nation.
The Esoteric America tour also will include a day at Colonial Williamsburg with a private tour guide who will share insight into life in 18th and 19th century America. Spirit Quest Tours also has arranged for an exclusive tour, unavailable to most tourists, of the oldest Masonic Lodge in the country, led by a local member of the Freemasons.
A Sunset Monuments Cruise up the Potomac River will be a highlight of the trip, which also offers plenty of free time for museum visits and individual exploration. Spirit Quest Tour guests will stay in a luxury boutique hotel in Old Town Alexandria.
