This community is based on only one rule: be Love. -Founder Dr. Timothy Wilken

The Gifting Earth (TGE), the Web's first global site dedicated to establishing a gift-based economy, made its debut today at thegiftingearth.net. The new site is now open to the public after several months of rigorous beta testing.
The brainchild of Dr. Timothy Wilken, founder and Senior Scientist of the SynEarth Network, TGE is the product of more than a dozen years of research and development. Wilken's interest in gift-based economies arose out of a long-time interest in new approaches to society and governance, sparked in part by the work of Buckminster Fuller.
To join TGE, members must begin by offering a gift. That gift may be actual merchandise, expertise, services or compassion. Once that first gift has been offered, members may then post needs that fall into those same categories. Community members then browse the site, looking for needs they can and are willing to meet. The entire gifting process is handled on the website, with identities revealed only when a transaction is ready to complete. This ensures privacy and integrity of members and the community.
Financial transactions, advertising, and attempts to market goods and services are strictly prohibited on the site, in which membership is and always will be free, according to Wilken.
"We expect to see this community grow both regionally and nationally into the tens of thousands of members in the next year," says Wilken. "Just during our 90-day beta period, we have attracted members from across the United States."
Explaining the purpose of TGE, Wilken said, "This community is based on only one rule: be Love. We believe that if you choose to be Love, then you can only do good, and if you only do good, you will discover that your community will so value you that it will ensure that you have everything you need and want."
