“Anyone can help us to spread the word about Super Saturday Spirit Sale and be entered to win a highly sought-after prize - on top on top of more-than $10,000 in prizes that will be given away on Saturday!”
Palm Springs, CA (PRWEB) April 17, 2013
On Saturday, April 13 at 1:00 PM Eastern, hundreds of personal development enthusiasts gathered online for the much-anticipated Super Saturday Spirit Sales featuring deep discounts on top products and services in the industry. But according to event producers Amy Scott Grant and Karla Silver, close to 20,000 uninvited guests were also in attendance, bringing down the SpiritSavings.com servers in what appears to be a DoS (Denial of Service) attack.
“Unfortunately, there must be some malicious people out there, because right at the start of the event, our IT department let us know that we had in excess of 20,000 ‘people/computers’ accessing our site,” commented Karla Silver, one of the co-producers of the event. “At first, Amy and I were excited by that number, and a little perplexed, since we hadn’t quite expected that many attendees. Our tech team quickly recognized it as a likely DoS attack and began working on restoring the spiritsavings.com, but the attacks continued. After a couple of hours, with hundreds and hundreds of customers braving our servers going up and down, we decided to reschedule.”
DoS attacks most often occur on high-profile sites, but well-publicized events such as the Super Saturday Spirit Sale have also come under attack. Essentially, the perpetrator facilitates a coordinated attack by sending external communications requests from a cluster of computers to the targeted site. As a result, the targeted site is slowed down dramatically, and is then unable to respond to legitimate traffic. A successful attack overloads the server, forcing it to be rebooted, thereby creating excessive downtime.
But perhaps the most interesting result of this likely DoS attack on SpiritSavings.com comes in the response from those affected by the experience.
“The response has been pleasantly shocking,” remarked Amy Scott Grant, co-producer of the event. “I expected a fair amount of backlash, but I can honestly say we have not gotten a single email flaming us. As a matter of fact, we’ve been inundated with emails and messages of support and blessings, in addition to requests to buy the products we attempted to showcase. It’s been quite amazing, really.”
Grant went on to explain that she and Silver were so inspired by the positive response and gracious understanding, the pair has chosen to give bonus gifts to those who re-register for this Saturday’s event. She also commented that even the vendors have been good sports, with many offering to promote the event further.
“We’ve also launched a contest,” comments Grant. “Anyone can help us to spread the word about this Saturday’s event and be entered to win a highly sought-after prize - on top on top of the more-than $10,000 in prizes that will be given away on Saturday!”
Products featured will include a variety of offerings, including products from Natalie Ledwell of Mind Movies (visualization and manifesting), Jerry Clark (success training), Joe Nunziata (spiritual selling and karma), Michael Losier (law of attraction), Marna Goldstein Thall (natural weight loss), Lauren E.
