XBOSoft’s methodologies on improving mobile application usability and user experience are chosen by both the QUEST 2013 and the STPCON conferences to be presented in April.

"The increased interest in mobile usability and user experience shows how important mobile has become."
- Phil Lew

At QUEST 2013 in Chicago, Dr. Phil Lew, CEO of XBOSoft, will hold a workshop in which he explains the differences between user experience and usability as important elements of software quality from an end user viewpoint. User experience, in particular, is an element that many forget until the end, and generally don’t know how to measure since there are no standard definitions.

Phil will discuss quality modeling and how usability and user experience should be modeled for the enterprise. This discussion will range from the initial components of quality, to breaking usability, and user experience down into measurable characteristics for mobile apps, and then using these characteristics to derive metrics. These metrics can then be used to benchmark, analyze, and improve the app toward end user satisfaction.

At STPCON in San Diego, Phil will hold a presentation on the increased importance of usability and user experience of today’s web and mobile applications. Especially with SaaS based business models where users can switch applications at a heartbeat and pay by the month (or even get a free trial), both usability and user experience become paramount as there is no up-front investment forcing a user to stay. The ISO 25010 standard describes a model for general usage in specifying and evaluating software quality requirements, one of which is usability, but there are no models or formal definitions for user experience, nor its relation to usability.

UX has no formal standard definition, although some models have been developed regarding its elements. In this talk, Phil draws relationships and definitions between usability and user experience and explores measurement and evaluation methods that can be used as the first step toward improvement for both mobile and web apps.

“The increased interested in mobile user experience, and mobile usability shows how important mobile has become. I am happy to share some of the insights we found at XBOSoft, working with clients around the world,” says Phil Lew.
