Campaign Kicks Off with Go Green 9 to 5 Pledge - A Charitable Challenge for Businesses.

A greener workplace means a smaller ecological footprint and is key to large-scale efforts to preserve our planet.

Momentum, the number one most reliable hosted PBX provider, today announced the launch of its corporate sustainability campaign - Better Enterprise, Better Earth - in celebration of Earth Day 2013.

The mission of Better Enterprise, Better Earth is to educate businesses about eco-friendly work practices and encourage professionals nationwide to make the pledge Go Green 9 to 5.

Momentum will be giving participants one, easy, go-green goal challenge to take each day during Earth Week including telecommuting.

Momentum will make a $10 donation to Green America for every individual that makes the pledge to work from home one day during Earth Week (April 22 - 26, 2013). By pledging, employees will promote social justice, environmental sustainability and healthy communities worldwide through a donation to Green America and support the organization’s eco-enterprise alliance, Green Business Network.

“Many people make eco-friendly choices at home by conserving water and recycling, but most don’t think about the ways their choices at work are affecting the environment. A greener workplace means a smaller ecological footprint and is key to large-scale efforts to preserve our planet,” said Sarah Brown, Director of Sales and Marketing at Momentum.

If every employee in the U.S. with a telework-compatible job would work from home one day during Earth Week, we could collectively save: 2.3 million barrels of oil, 28 million kWh in net electricity and eliminate 423,000 tons of greenhouse gases, the equivalent to taking 77,000 cars off the road for a year, according to Telework Research Network data.

Corporate environmental behavior needs to change and needs to change soon. According to a recent study conducted by Ernst & Young, 76 percent of businesses anticipate that natural resource shortages will affect their core business objectives within the next 3 to 5 years.

Brown said businesses can make a positive shift by integrating green communications. Leveraging modern technology, employees can keep documents digital to eliminate paper waste, adopt equipment-free solutions like Internet fax to decrease energy consumption and reduce travel by staying connected with collaboration tools like web and video conferencing.

“Momentum recognizes the responsibility individuals have for keeping the planet clean -- not just on Earth Day, but every day. With Better Enterprises, Better Earth efforts we want to inspire the employees here at Momentum, in the city of Birmingham and across the country to make better business-related environmental choices for the long term,” Brown added.
