iscream4reading has fundraised thousands for Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs), Parent Teacher Organizations (PTOs) and other school organizations by driving literacy through a unique reading-based school fundraiser program.
iscream4reading is jumping into its second year with full force, continuing to drive their mission of improving literacy and fundraising in schools.
“We loved that it raised money for her school while being completely in line with something we wanted her to do anyway, read. She hit her goal and raised over $1000 for her school through the iscream4reading program,” says Ginny Moffat, 1st grade parent.
iscream4reading’s success has relied on focusing efforts online to make their fundraising impact broader and easier for PTAs and PTOs. Using technology and eliminating product waste, iscream4reading has redirected fundraising to support schools and students through reading.
With the help of SocialRaise, a nonprofit focused digital agency, iscream4reading offers a custom webpage that allows a PTA or PTO to launch and drive their fundraiser online, easily making it available for donors to make a donation and forward the information to family and friends. In addition to driving the fundraiser, iscream4reading is able to collect all the program data for each school . As a result, the program requires minimal volunteerism. By minimizing tedious paperwork and other clerical work, volunteers are now able to focus on the fun stuff like distribution of the prizes and rewards.
iscream4reading also provides sample communication for the school; including letters to parents, letters to donors and communication through customized emails, along with tips and tricks for how to market your school fundraiser.
“Besides running a pep-rally and communicating with our families, iscream4reading provided us with all the materials we needed to make our fundraiser successful. It was that easy!”, says one PTA volunteer.
iscream4reading focused their inaugural year on schools in the Chicagoland area and is now expanding nationwide. In its first year, iscream4reading encouraged thousands of students to continue to read throughout the summer. This translated into tens of thousands of hours read, lots of prizes distributed and even more funds raised. Many schools were able to help build much needed playgrounds, obtain new desks and chairs, and support new digital libraries as the program often brings upwards of $25,000 to schools.
Founded by Kim Morrow, a former educator and active fundraiser who was well aware of school issues surrounding fundraising and developed iscream4reading. Her concept was to create a fundraiser that would support education and raise essential funds. iscream4reading, the low maintenance, low investment with minimal volunteers required concept, is a win-win for PTA’s, PTO’s, schools teachers, parents, and students.
