Projects help University achieve a $6 million dollar savings.

David P. Kaye, President of Facilities Management Solutions, LLC, a provider of facilities management operations and maintenance consulting services in the region, announced today that it has completed the last of three important projects for Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, MD.

Kaye has more than 35 years of experience in the construction, renovation, maintenance and overall management of facilities and is also a licensed commercial realtor. The projects included analyses of three major areas for the University in the areas of facilities management and purchasing:

  •     Review and recommendations relative to the University’s contracted physical plant management and the University’s hourly physical plant workforce;
  •     Review and recommendations relative to the University’s legal contract to engage a contracted physical plant management and workforce;
  •     Review and recommendations of the University’s purchasing department and its processes.

The physical plant contract review projects helped Mount St. Mary’s achieve a savings of more than $6 million. The purchasing project helped the University identify cost efficiencies in printing, purchasing and mail services along with identifying procurement weaknesses.

“In all departments, David’s work has been outstanding. He is thorough and comprehensive in his reviews and brings an exceptional background of experience to his endeavors. David is particularly easy to work with and particularly in tune with his client’s needs and goals” says Dan Soller, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Mount St. Mary’s University.

Besides his own consulting firm, Kaye serves as a facilities consultant with Tyler-Donegan Real Estate Services in Ijamsville. Prior to that, he spent 17 years at the American Red Cross, first as director of facilities management for its biomedical research and development division, and later on as the division’s senior director of facilities and research services.

In this capacity, he directed numerous major functional areas, such as physical plant operations and maintenance, construction engineering, environmental health and safety, animal research operations, lab support services, information technology and telecommunications.

Prior to his career with the Red Cross, Kaye worked in academia, more recently as director of utilities and energy management at Stanford University, and earlier on as utilities manager at Yale University.

Kaye, who received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Management from the University of Maryland, College Park, was in the U.S. Army for 25 years, most of this time with the U.S. Army Corps. of Engineers.
