Designer purses have become very popular with collectors. We have noticed designer purses made since the 1950s are being sold at shows, shops and auctions at high prices.

The Kovels.com Top 20 list indicates the interests of collectors who visit the website. During March 2013, antique enthusiasts were busy researching:

This month, No. 7 on the list is Purses. “Designer purses have become very popular with collectors," according to Terry Kovel. “We have noticed designer purses made since the 1950s are being sold at shows, shops and auctions at high prices. It's probably because the very top of the market includes bags that retail for thousands of dollars, like the famous Birkin bag by Hermes. At auction, they sell for less because a little wear is expected.”

Thirteen of the 20 categories are types of pottery and porcelain, the most popular category of antiques or collectibles wanted and researched today. The makers of the world’s most famous soft drinks, Coca-Cola (No. 3) and Pepsi-Cola (No. 14), are still making collectibles, and thousands of different items can be found. Trays, signs and large advertising pieces that date from 1886 to about 1914 are scarce and very valuable. And Toys (No. 10) of any age bring back fond memories. Price is set by age, condition and rarity, plus the remembered emotions of childhood.

Collectors who search Kovels.com always want to know more—about descriptions, marks and prices. Kovels.com and “Kovels’ Antiques and Collectibles Price Guide” list thousands of current prices in hundreds of categories that are carefully selected and edited.
