The entrepreneurial spirit has affected the larger pattern of my life and has also impacted very specific activities – both business and political – that I have undertaken.

Robert K. Lifton’s expansive memoir “An Entrepreneur’s Journey: Stories from a Life in Business and Personal Diplomacy” (published by AuthorHouse) chronicles his work in the Middle East, a broad range of business ventures and memorable personalities encountered along the way.

From Lifton’s early life in the Depression years, his career as a Yale-trained lawyer and businessman to his activities in American politics and world diplomacy as president of the American Jewish Congress and other organizations, Lifton emphasizes the importance of employing an entrepreneurial spirit in personal and professional pursuits.

Lifton defines entrepreneurial spirit as having a willingness to challenge the status quo, an insatiable curiosity about developments in the world and the courage to take risks to achieve goals.

“The entrepreneurial spirit has affected the larger pattern of my life and has also impacted very specific activities – both business and political – that I have undertaken,” he says. “There is a message here for members of younger generations to be open to new experiences.”

Lifton shares a variety of anecdotes from his careers in law, politics and foreign policy. Among the compelling stories are his efforts as the first businessman to integrate a hotel in the South, his role in marketing the successful Academy Award campaign for hit record “You Light Up My Life,” and his purchase of the aircraft carrier he served on during the Korean War. He also regales readers with insightful stories about business and world leaders such as Donald Trump, Nelson Mandela, Benjamin Netanyahu and with notorious figures such as Bernard Madoff, who victimized him along with others.
