We are committed to continually enhancing our health and safety performance through training and raising awareness of safety in the workplace as we work towards our long term aspirational goal for zero lost time accidents.
Oxford (PRWEB UK) 17 April 2013
RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), the world’s leading high service distributor of electronics and maintenance products, has won a silver award in the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2013. As a recipient of a bronze award in 2012, this latest recognition by the safety charity acknowledges the progress RS has made in its occupational health and safety over the past year.
Through the creation of strong leadership skills, developing the right behaviours and mindset within its employees, and equipping them to play a full role in creating a safe and fulfilling workplace, the safety culture at RS has grown from strength to strength in the last 12 months. This has been demonstrated with a 24% improvement in its lost time accident rate. Another significant achievement has been the number of near misses reported, which has more than doubled over the year, a clear indication that the company’s education campaign is succeeding.
RS believes that health and safety in the workplace are integral to both continued economic success and a sustainable future. The company’s core objective is to achieve long term culture change within the business, promoting good practice and behaviours amongst all employees. Its health and safety systems, processes and organisation are embedded as a core activity and underpin many wider business strategies.
Dave Mason, Global Head of Health and Safety, Electrocomponents, said: “The silver award is a tremendous achievement for us and reflects the hard work we have put in to improve accident prevention in our organisation. Ensuring the safety of our employees is a primary concern. We are committed to continually enhancing our health and safety performance through training and raising awareness of safety in the workplace as we work towards our long term aspirational goal for zero lost time accidents.”
David Rawlins, RoSPA’s Awards Manager, said: “RoSPA firmly believes that organisations that demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention deserve recognition. RS Components has shown that it is committed to striving for such continuous improvement and we are delighted to honour it through the presentation of an award.”
The silver award will be presented to RS in a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, at the National Exhibition Centre, on 16 May.
Dating back 57 years, the RoSPA Awards scheme recognises commitment to accident and ill health prevention and is the largest and longest-running programme of its kind in the UK. The scheme not only looks at accident records, but also entrants’ overarching health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.
