Solar Hydronics Corporation and The LeverEdge, both located in Odessa, Florida recently hosted a morning of fun and learning for the fifth grade students of Carrollwood Day School. Solar Hydronics Corporation manufactures superior quality solar pool heating systems and LeverEdge distributes these solar pool heaters and other solar products from their worldwide distribution centers located throughout Florida. During their visit, the students learned about solar photovoltaic technologies, solar water heaters and solar pool heating systems. The session began in a classroom type setting before embarking on a tour of Solar Hydronics, the world’s most advanced solar pool collector manufacturer. In this facility, the students saw how solar pool heating collectors are made; from the mixing of the proprietary blend of polypropylene material, to the final testing and branding of the completed solar collector, the students experienced it all.

The fifth graders of Carrollwood Day School are currently studying “energy” as their unit of inquiry, and much of their daily examination of the subject embraces the question, “What can we do to conserve energy?” While the students collaboratively pontificate the answer to this question, alternative energy sources are at the forefront of their discussions. As a result, this trip to Solar Hydronics Corporation (SHC) and LeverEdge was more than just an excuse to break out of the monotony of the classroom for a day; it was on point with their studies, which was evident to the SHC staff providing the tour. “The students were really engaged in the presentation. It was very interactive and the children asked some excellent questions. We really enjoyed having them as our guests!” – Bob Bennett, President and tour guide for the day.
