Purpose Prep has partnered with Vanderbilt University’s Students for Education Reform (SFER) to host a reading drive benefiting the future scholars of Purpose Prep. SFER volunteers will read a variety of books to enrolled Purpose Prep scholars and their families at an upcoming event at the Bordeaux Branch Library. Selected books, generously provided by SFER and made possible with the help of Barnes & Noble at Vanderbilt, will be donated to every family who attends.

Lagra Newman, Founder and Head of School at Purpose Prep, emphasized the school’s commitment to instill in students a strong literacy foundation starting in kindergarten. “We know that reading aloud to children is one of the most important activities for building the knowledge required for future success in comprehension and literacy,” stated Newman. “This partnership will jumpstart the exposure and access our families and scholars have to books as they prepare for kindergarten at Purpose Prep.”

Outgoing president Shawn Ellis commented on how much their volunteers are looking forward to engaging with the community. “SFER is meant to empower the college student as an active agent for change in the education reform movement,” said Ellis. “Since we ourselves are still learning about the intricacies of education reform, helping support the opening of a new charter school in the Nashville community was a perfect fit to actively engage in the movement.”
