School Improvement Network, the leader in educator effectiveness resources, today announces that “Mapping to the Core” on the LumiBook platform was named a finalist in the 2013 EdTech Digest Awards program.

LumiBook is a highly interactive, cloud-based e-reading platform that allows readers and authors to share and collaborate in online communities to develop ideas and form new content. Authors can then instantly update their books to incorporate these new ideas.

In “Mapping to the Core,” Common Core expert Heidi Hayes Jacobs leads LumiBook readers through a four-phase model that guides educators through the process of creating a curriculum map aligned to the Common Core Standards. The model establishes a foundational understanding of the Standards, maps the curriculum and aligns learning targets to the Standards, informs the curriculum with assessment data and then anticipates future Standards and learner needs. Each phase can be applied to an entire district or an individual classroom.

As part of the LumiBook platform, educators reading “Mapping to the Core” can collaborate with one another and with “Mapping to the Core” author and Common Core expert Heidi Hayes Jacobs on Common Core implementation and curriculum mapping.

“We are very pleased ‘Mapping to the Core’ has been named a finalist in the 2013 EdTech Digest Awards program,” said Chet Linton, CEO and president of School Improvement Network. “Properly integrating school curriculum to the Common Core Standards could have unprecedented positive impacts on our students’ preparation for college and career when they finish high school. ‘Mapping to the Core’ gives educators the knowledge and tools they need to effectively teach and integrate the standards, through LumiBook’s rich capabilities, especially the ability to collaborate in real time with educators nationwide and Common Core expert, Heidi Hayes Jacobs.”
