I’m excited to make a contribution to high school counselors of Christian schools across North America and to be sharing at a national level about our college-preparatory online program.

Cyndy Locke, Oaks Christian Online High School counselor, will be leading two sessions at the North American Coalition for Christian Admissions Professionals on May 29th – June 1st at the annual conference held at Messiah College in Grantham, PA. The conference mission is to provide professional development, support and encouragement for Christian College, Graduate School and Seminary admissions personnel and High School Guidance Counselors across North America. In accordance with this year’s theme of ‘Breaching Boundaries in Higher Education,’ Mrs. Locke will present about how to create a college counseling program from the ground up to high school counselors and preparing for online high school candidates to college admission professionals. Mrs. Locke says, “I’m excited to make a contribution to high school counselors of Christian schools across North America and to be sharing at a national level about our college-preparatory online program.”

Mrs. Locke is becoming an authority on these topics by developing the college-preparatory counseling program at Oaks Christian Online High School. She has modeled the program after the Oaks Christian main-campus’ world-class college preparation program but has adopted it for the online world. In the 2012-2013 school year, Mrs. Locke created a program for the school’s online students that currently reside in ten states and eight countries across the world. The program includes quarterly local college visits, twelve virtual presentations, grade-level counseling classes and college testing. She is looking forward to seeing the college admission results for this year’s seniors, but the real highlight of her year is a week-long college trip with students in May. This year’s trip has students visiting ten northern California colleges in five days. Freshman to junior students have an opportunity to visit a variety of colleges on private tours and reflect on what they’ve learned in Mrs. Locke’s course while experiencing the campuses first-hand. “I’m looking forward to exposing students to a wide variety of colleges and what they offer each student,” says Mrs. Locke. Whether it’s travelling with local, California students or advising students all over the country and the world, Mrs. Locke is becoming an expert in new, online areas of Christian distance learning.

The main campus of Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village, CA opened in the fall of 2000 and Oaks Christian Online School (OCO) opened for full-time, online students in the fall of 2011.
