The Citi Field Reebok Spartan Race, one of the biggest single day events in Spartan history, took competitors through Citi Field, the home of the New York Mets.

On April 22, Spartan Race applauds all of the racers who participated in the Citi Field Reebok Spartan Race for helping make it one of the biggest single day events in Spartan Race history.

According to the Spartan Blog, the Citi Field Reebok Spartan Race took racers through a course that was much different from standard obstacle course races set in the wilderness. Participants ran up and down bleachers, did push-ups in the visitors’ locker room, scaled a cargo net in the outfield, pushed their way through the gladiator pit on the warning track, and much more.

There was no mud running at Citi Field, but Spartans were still up for the challenge. Hunter McIntyre claimed the first place spot in the men’s Elite heat with a time of 26:56. Shaun Provost was the first to finish the women’s Elite heat with a time of 36:53.

Not to be outdone by the adults, the Spartan Kids also played a role in making Citi Field one of the biggest turnouts in Spartan Race history. In fact, the Spartan Kids race was the largest one to date.

Spartan Race also partnered with Pro vs GI Joe, a nonprofit organization that connects troops in Afghanistan with their families. A live stream was set up and each heat at Citi Field was sent off by troops from Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Joe De Sena, founder of Spartan Race, commented on the Citi Field race. “We had a great turnout for race, and tons of Spartans stepped up to the challenge. It was encouraging to see such a large turnout for the Spartan Kids. We received a lot of positive feedback from our partnership with Pro vs GI Joe and we are continuing to partner with the US military in different ways. In May we will be holding a Military Spartan Sprint in Fort Carson, Colorado.”

Spartan Race, voted Outside Magazine’s Best Obstacle Race in 2012, is the world’s leading obstacle race series and the first of its kind to have global rankings. Spartan Race is a timed event series featuring races at three escalating distances in locations worldwide that culminate in a World Championship Finale with cash and prizes for the champions. While featuring competitive elite heats, Spartan Races are for athletes of all levels and abilities and are geared towards ripping people off their couches and into the outdoors.
