Broadband Antenna Tracking Systems, (BATS), one of the world's leading innovators of antenna aiming, tracking, and stabilization systems; today announced the release of a solution overview illustrating its work on a DVM-50 deployment operating above the Arctic Circle (Barents Sea). The DVM 50CE system, the 360 continuous rotation, cold-weather variant of the DVM 50 product line was paired with a 5.8 Ghz modified Mikrotik radio onboard the Njord Viking icebreaker supply vessel to provide an upwards of 200 Mbps throughput to support production and communications links to the Scarabeo 8 deepwater drilling rig.
Dual integrated BATS DVM-50CE systems were mounted port and starboard on the Njord Viking supply vessel, where they would locate, lock, and maintain continuous connection to the partnering sector base stations located on the Scarabeo 8 deepwater drilling platform. This ship-to-platform tracking scenario allowed for the client to significantly boost their real-time operational range for their energy production needs. Through the use of the strategically mounted DVM-50 systems, BATS was able to deliver a realized high-capacity mobile connection capable of easily reaching and exceeding their operations target of 16km.
