"This is an important initiative for Ziegler and we are excited to have both Riordan and Gugluizza join the Ziegler team. This practice is in line with our core values and mission of offering tailored financial solutions to colleges and universities..."
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) April 18, 2013
Ziegler, a full-service specialty investment bank and broker-dealer specializing in the healthcare, senior living, education and religion sectors, has announced the addition of a new investment banking practice that will focus exclusively on financing higher education. With more than 100 years of experience, Ziegler is a recognized leader in the educational sector throughout the U.S. Ziegler has been active in the k-12 education market where it has been a leader in the charter school sector. It is one of the few financial services firms in the country that has a team of finance professionals dedicated to the education sector.
The new practice allows Ziegler to establish and maintain strong advisory relationships with colleges and universities, and deliver the tailored financial solutions they need. The practice will focus on schools nationwide, but will be based at its headquarters in Chicago.
To head the new practice, Ziegler has hired as managing director, veteran banker Brian Riordan, whose extensive higher education background will help the bank cultivate new relationships in the space. Mr. Riordan, who most recently served as the Director of Public Finance for Huntington Investment Company, has worked in public finance and commercial banking for more than 15 years, providing solutions to public and private educational institutions nationwide. Ziegler also has hired banker Joseph Gugluizza to join the initiative, and expects to at least double the size of the practice over the next two years. Mr. Gugluizza, who has over 14 years of higher education experience worked along side Riordan at GE Capital where he worked prior to joining Ziegler.
“From a financing perspective, private placements, as opposed to public offerings, have become increasingly popular in the higher education space,” said Mr. Gugluizza. “We both have extensive expertise in this area, as well as with bond underwriting, allowing us to stay at the forefront of capitalizing on this trend to find the most unique and beneficial solutions for our clients.”
Mr. Riordan added, “The new practice uniquely positions Ziegler to meet the debt financing needs of private colleges and universities, as well as smaller public universities, by offering a trusted adviser for services including bond underwriting, financial advisory, and private placements. With the creation of this new practice, we are now poised to build long-term relationships with colleges and universities, not only guiding them through the complexities of individual transactions, but serving as a dependable financial partner who can grow with them over the years.”
The practice complements Ziegler’s other business lines in the healthcare, senior living, religion and education sectors, and gives the bank another platform to leverage its unique expertise in complex credit structures and financial advisory services. Through the practice, colleges and universities can learn what their competitors are doing, keep abreast of market trends, and take advantage of new financing opportunities. Dan Hermann, Head of Investment Banking, will oversee the team.
“This is an important initiative for Ziegler and we are excited to have both Riordan and Gugluizza join the Ziegler team. This practice is in line with our core values and mission of offering tailored financial solutions to colleges and universities nationwide. Their experience and expertise will benefit not only our existing clients, but those to come.”
