Brisk walking will most often keep the heart rate at fat burning to light aerobic levels, which is why it tends to be a great exercise for those looking to lose weight.

Garmin Forerunner 10 has been voted the best GPS walking watch for 2013 by the Heart Rate Watch Company.
"Generally speaking, folks that walk or power walk don't need to be as concerned with heart rate because they are working out at moderate levels, so pace and distance become the more useful pieces of information," says Rusty Squire, President of the Heart Rate Watch Company.
The Natural Fat Burning Exercise
"Brisk walking will most often keep the heart rate at fat burning to light aerobic levels which is why it tends to be a great exercise for those looking to lose weight or start back on a program," says Squire. He adds, "Distance, pace, calories and even mapping details, like those rendered by the Garmin Forerunner 10, seem to fit the bill pretty well for walking enthusiasts."
The Forerunner 10 can also be used for cycling because it will display speed in miles per hour, so it delivers speed, distance and post-ride maps. "This gives the watch a nice versatility and because it strictly does pacing and distance there is no chest strap to wear."
The Timex Marathon is the other watch in this category but does not include the pacing functions the Garmin has according to Squire.
"Of course, for those that plan on working out harder after base building it really is a good idea to have a heart rate monitor because interval type workout needs measured recovery," says Squire. He adds, "For those who are happy hiking, power walking or cycling at a moderate pace the Forerunner 10 may be a good solution."
"Having maps and precise distances for all your walks along with pacing records on Garmin Connect software can be pretty handy and it definitely spurs you on," says Squire.
