If you ran out of a food supply and you were left with nothing but being able to gain nutrients off the land, what bugs would you recommend eating?

In the most recent episode of Off The Grid News Radio, host Bill Heid sits down with Matthew Stein, author of “When Technology Fails.” Heid and Stein set out to learn why Stein felt compelled to write his book and how he gained the knowledge that he shares in the book. Stein holds a degree in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

To start the show, Stein tells Heid about the spiritual experiences that led to him acquire knowledge about the effects and implementations of an EMP or “grid-down” attack on the United States of America.

Stein talks about what he feels are the three major threats to take down the power grid on a national level. The first two threats that he covers have been all over the news with the North Korea attacks. He discusses the possibilities and effects of a direct EMP attack on the United States and intense solar storms. The third attack that he goes into detail about is the threat that he feels is the most probable and scariest treat.

Later in the show Heid prompts Stein by asking him a question about some information in “When Technology Fails.” Heid asks Stein, “If you ran out of a food supply and you were left with nothing but being able to gain nutrients off the land, what bugs would you recommend eating?” Stein’s response was that he would recommend grasshoppers and grubs. He goes into detail quickly about their nutrition value and cultural acceptance in various parts of the world.

Finally, to wrap up the interview, Stein discusses what he feels can be done by the government to protect the United States against a complete, long-term grid-down scenario. He argues that for the price of a stealth bomber, the government could take drastic measures to help give the United States a leg up when the power grid does go down, whether it be an EMP, solar storm, or domestic attack.
