The South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority continues to pave the “technological” way for other destination marketing organizations (DMO’s) through launching its new geocentric-based mobile website.
The mobile site features all of the partner listings, hotel info, calendar of events and things to do, as well as a section for local deals. According to Director of Information Technology for the South Shore CVA Luke Weinman IV, the new mobile site utilizes geocentric integration, which allows users to find nearby partners from wherever the site is being visited from. A user will be able to locate restaurants, attractions, and event locations, as well as get directions, from the new mobile site.

The mobile site is built to feel like an app using the latest mobile design code to provide the user with an app feel as they’re interacting with it, but users do not need to download anything. The new design also includes a unique side navigation panel that is accessible from any location on the mobile site – users do not have to scroll to the top to navigate elsewhere.
When exploring a listing for an event or a business, a user may click on “What’s Nearby” to locate other businesses and attractions that are close to the originally viewed business.
For users more than 50 miles outside of the South Shore, the mobile site will prompt them to choose if they’d like to disable the “nearby me” feature or use the center of the city as the location. Users who are in-market will not be prompted; instead the events, listings and offers will be filtered by distance from the user’s location.
While on the mobile site, users who are filtered by distance may also toggle the view between list view or map view. The list view is optimized for phone and will show the details about the listing upon clicking on it.
