The Orange County LPL financial advisors of IWM Partners will host an “Identity Theft: When you are the Target” workshop on Tuesday, May 14 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at its Fountain Valley office presented by detective Spangler of the Fountain Valley Police Department. The workshop is part of a monthly educational workshop series for clients and the community.

In the workshop, Detective Spangler will provide information on how identity theft occurs, how to protect yourself and what to do if you become a victim. The detective will go over common types of fraud, ways to minimize your risk, the cost of identity theft, and warning signs that someone has stolen your personal information.
Identity theft involves the use of a victim’s personal identity and/or credit for criminal purposes. Identifying information can include a social security number, date of birth, mother’s maiden name, account number, addresses and more. Identity theft is almost always employed to achieve a financial gain or to avoid apprehension or detection.
