Attendees enjoyed a full slate of energy, ideas and new skills development at the organization's 27th annual conference where sessions on marketing, social media leadership, technology, and more gave AIIP members a “Rocky Mountain Recharge.”

"AIIP members come together each year to share tips, tools, and best practices for transitioning from a corporate to an independent career," says newly installed AIIP President, Jocelyn Sheppard.

Attendees enjoyed a “Rocky Mountain Recharge” of energy, ideas, and skills at the 27th annual Association of Independent Information Professionals (AIIP) conference held April 3-7 at the Denver Westin Downtown in Denver, Colorado.

"AIIP members come together each year to share tips, tools, and best practices for transitioning from a corporate to an independent career," says newly installed AIIP President, Jocelyn Sheppard. Popular sessions this year featured best-selling author Debra Fine (The Fine Art of Small Talk) on finding good ways into—and out of—any type of conversation, and brand builder and author Erika Napolitano (The Power of Unpopular: A Guide to Building Your Brand For the Audience Who Will Love You [And Why No One Else Matters]) on ways to develop not just a brand, but also a following. In a similar vein, Aaron Templer, strategic marketing communications consultant and winner of AIIP’s 2013 Roger Summit Award, explained how in today’s networked world, sharing information via social media is a key indicator of leadership—and not just marketing savvy.

Other speakers shared techniques for converting contacts and leads into paying clients. Author Mary Ellen Bates (Building & Running a Successful Research Business) provided expert advice on the art of negotiation, while other speakers explained how to connect effectively with prospects and clients via tools and techniques such as website optimization, face-to-face presentations, social media, and e-newsletters. First-time attendees enjoyed a special session designed to kick-off their networking and help them get the most out of their conference experience.

Reflecting the broad range of the AIIP membership, sessions and workshops also covered iOS, gadgetry, industry research, investigations and online intelligence, and prospect research for non-profits. Free training on searching their premium databases was provided by the American Psychological Association, Euromonitor International, FINTEL Financial Intelligence, and ProQuest Dialog™.

The conference also included AIIP’s annual awards dinner and a successful campaign to benefit Dress for Success Denver that raised more than $1,500 in cash plus in-kind donations.
