The international law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP, announced that shareholder, Wendy Johnson Lario, will receive the 2013 Equality Award from the Alice Paul Institute (API). Lario, who chairs the firm’s New Jersey Labor & Employment Practice, will be honored at the API award ceremony on April 25 at The Mansion on Main Street, Voorhees, New Jersey.
Lario is the immediate past president and nominations chair of the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association and received the 2012 "Salute to the Policy Makers Award" from Executive Women of New Jersey. Among Lario’s many accolades, she was listed in the most recent edition of The Best Lawyers in America and was included in NJBIZ’s 2012 “Best 50 Women in Business” list.
According to API, the award is “presented to individuals who capture the spirit of Alice Paul, a suffragist, who dedicated her life to equal rights for women.” Other 2013 honorees include Amy S. Frazier, CPA, marketing and sales leader, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Philadelphia; Jill Horner, host, Comcast Newsmakers; Dr. Bruce Main, founder and president of Urban Promise Ministries; and Lynn Hardy Yeakel, director of Drexel University College of Medicine’s Institute for Women’s Health and Leadership.
Lario represents employers in litigation involving claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and whistleblowing, among others. She appears regularly in federal and state courts in New Jersey and New York and defends employers against charges filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights (NJDCR) and the New York Division of Human Rights (NYDHR).
