We want to give our customers the tools to make a difference for the things that they are passionate about. We take it upon ourselves to provide them with options of top-notch charities, then the rest is completely up to them.

Pay It Forward has just announced that it has partnered with AMREF USA to help raise money for people struggling with poverty and disease in Africa. AMREF USA manages a full range of medical and health programs targeted at aiding issues such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, clean water, family health, health worker training, clinical and surgical outreach. Pay It Forward has committed to donating 25% of every item sold to help AMREF USA fulfill their mission of empowering Africans to escape poverty through better health. AMREF USA is one of 12 unique non-profit organizations that customers can choose to support while shopping with PIF Apparel.
PIF’s shirts are certainly the draw; but their main goal is to educate its customers on how they can impact positive change more efficiently by choosing to support non-profits that are committed to a higher standard of financial stewardship. By supporting companies that allocate a higher percentage of money to a cause, donors are able to impact the cause more effectively. All of the charities that PIF has partnered with to help support have an above average financial rating with the nation’s largest independent non-profit evaluator, Charity Navigator.
On the surface, Pay It Forward’s business model is similar to many other socially minded firms that have been showing up over the past few years. But once customers begin to scratch the surface, they find a company that is committed to educating its customers, supporting the non-profits it represents, and doing something that no other socially minded firms are doing: giving the customer the choice of who to support. At any one point in time customers have the opportunity to support more than twelve different charities, all with varying causes and missions.
Partnering with charities that have different missions is another important aspect to the PIF Apparel business model. The company believes that people should have the freedom to support whichever cause they are passionate about, rather than being “sold” the idea that one is more important than another.
“We want to give our customers the tools to make a difference for the things that they are passionate about. We take it upon ourselves to provide them with options of top-notch charities, then the rest is completely up to them,” says a PIF Apparel spokesperson.
Going forward the company will be looking to develop a more in-depth approach to educating customers on how they can develop their own fundraising campaigns to help raise money for the non-profit organizations that they love.
