New service standardizes and ranks open source repositories, components, q&a, tutorials and more to help developers find top programming solutions—all in one place

Verious, Inc. (http://www.Verious.com) today unveiled the world’s first code recommendation engine for developers. This revolutionary new service aggregates and ranks code and content from over 10,000 sources, enabling developers to find and save the best solutions for their programming needs and to share their research with others in the developer community. Consisting of over 2.9 million development and design resources, with thousands more items added daily, Verious’ code recommendation engine springboards Verious.com from a marketplace with 2000 pre-built mobile app components to a broadscale site serving a wide range of developers coding in over 170 programming languages, platforms and frameworks. The new code recommendation engine is available today on http://www.Verious.com.

“With the global boom in software development, developers are constantly scouring the Web to find the resources they need to ship quality code, faster,” said Anil Pereira, founder and CEO of Verious. “Our new code recommendation engine was built to serve developers who program in virtually any language or framework. By aggregating, indexing and ranking millions of code-related items—source code, components, samples and snippets, design templates, Q&A, videos, apps, tutorials—we can instantly provide developers with top recommendations, helping them to minimize their research time and maximize their programming output.”

Verious’ new code recommendation engine draws and indexes content from over 10,000 popular developer-focused sources that feature pre-built components from major code and design marketplaces (including Verious’ own), open source repositories, answers to coding questions from Q&A sites, code samples, code snippets, design templates, apps from major app stores, blogs, tutorials, presentations, videos and more. The engine relies on Verious’ own proprietary IP to standardize, normalize and rank content so that resources from disparate sources and categories can be displayed in a single set of results. For example, a query on “Wordpress custom post types” currently generates a result that includes code from several sources, multiple Q&A answers and multiple tutorials and videos.

Once a developer enters a topic into Verious’ code recommendation engine, Verious searches all available resources that match the topic and then, based on a proprietary algorithm, displays a “collection” of the Top 10 matches for that topic. The list also displays top items from a given source such as “Top Code”, “Top Q&A”, “Top Tutorial” and the like. The user can then drill down and view details on any of the items; deselect any items which do not meet their needs; add more items from a specific source or category (e.g., Q&A, Github) and even add external links or bookmarks of their own. Developers can save and refer back to a collection on an ongoing basis and can share their collections privately or with the entire global developer community.

The Verious code recommendation engine is powered by Verious’ proprietary, patent-pending CodeRank algorithm that scores each resource based on a number of attributes. These include: popularity of the source (e.g., number of followers); popularity of the item on the originating source (e.g., usage, downloads, ratings, views, followers, commits, favorites, likes); popularity and usage of the item on Verious.com (views, favorites, downloads); and ranking of an item within a “content hierarchy” that ranges from source code to an article on a given programming topic. Each item and its unique attributes fall on multiple scales (since not every item contains every attribute) and Verious then translates all items onto a common scale, determining CodeRank scores on seemingly disparate resources and content.

The Verious code recommendation engine constantly fetches new content—and continues to add new sources and categories—which means that thousands of new resources are being added to Verious.com on a daily basis.

With content feeds coming in from over 10,000 sources, the Verious engine also aggregates profiles on over 200,000 developers that are active in various developer communities across the Web. “Smart profiles” for over 1,000 top developers have already been created on http://www.Verious.com showcasing a developer’s activity across all of the developer communities to which they belong.
