(PRWEB UK) 23 April 2013
Book worms everywhere will have the opportunity to discover some new reads or revisit their favourite novels with World Book Night – a celebration of reading that takes place today (April 23rd).
Each year, 20,000 volunteers are recruited to hand out 20 copies of their favourite book within their local community. The books are chosen from a list of specially printed titles and the aim is to get people to share their love of the written word. It’s all about giving books and encouraging people who don’t usually read to find out just how magical great books can be. This year, the event is being celebrated in the UK, Ireland and the US, so it is truly going global.
The 20 special titles are chosen by an independent committee and authors waive their royalties, while publishers agree to print special World Book Night copies free of charge. And of course the Book People is getting in on the action by selling the selected titles at its usual discounted prices to ensure everyone can try reading a new book for the special occasion.
Among the discounted books available are Noughts & Crosses by Malorie Blackman, Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier and Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale. What’s more, the Book People has chosen its top ten eBooks from the list, so customers have an even quicker way to rediscover their favourite titles. It is even giving away a free Treasure Island eBook to customers who have the Book People app or those who download it.
Lindsay Eyers, social media manager at the Book People, said: “World Book Night is a brilliant celebration of literature and reading, so obviously we had to get involved. We’ve got all 20 of the specially selected World Book Night titles so our customers can try something new, or just buy a title they haven’t read for years and remember why they loved it so much.”
The Book People is an online book store that specialises in selling everything from novels to children’s books and cookery titles for up to 75 per cent off the recommended retail price. The award-winning family firm has a network of distributors in both the UK and Ireland, meaning everyone can discover something new for World Book Night.
