Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) will launch the Center for Leadership and Community Advocacy in Fall 2013, President B. James Dawson announced this week.
The Center will be based at the LMU-Duncan School of Law in Knoxville, Tenn., and will include baccalaureate, graduate and professional degree programs aimed at producing ethical leaders in the fields of criminal justice, social services and counseling. Included in the Center’s initial offerings will be an Educational Doctorate in Executive Leadership, a Master of Education in Community Agency Counseling (non-licensure) and a baccalaureate degree in criminal justice.
“These initial offerings will lay the groundwork for a robust center focused on community service, advancement and leadership,” Dawson said. “The LMU Center for Leadership and Community Advocacy is a natural progression for our academic community and will utilize the talents of our faculty from across the University.”
The EdD in Executive Leadership is designed for working professionals with master’s or other advanced graduate degrees in any discipline. Specifically, the program would be ideal for medical administrators, religious leaders, educators not seeking licensure, and professionals working in governmental or social agencies. The degree programs will include night and weekend classes with blended and technology enhanced options.
The Master’s in Community Agency Counseling (non-licensure) is a generalist degree designed to serve professionals in human and social service agencies, as well as business and organizational settings.
The Center will offer two tracks to a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, one for students with little or no previous college and a degree completion option for students with an Associate in Criminal Justice. All coursework will be delivered by LMU faculty.
LMU plans to expand the offerings at the Center to include a master's degree program in criminal justice, a graduate concentration in conflict management in the Master's degree in counseling pending SACS approval. Additionally LMU anticipates offering a certificate program in mediation pending SACS approval.
