Breakthrough for Brain Tumors 5K Run & Walk

Breakthrough for Brain Tumors, the American Brain Tumor Association’s (ABTA) annual 5K run and walk, returns to Chicago’s Montrose Harbor on Saturday, June 1, 2013. The event is expected to draw thousands of families and friends who have been impacted by a brain tumor diagnosis to Chicago’s lakefront.

Proceeds support the ABTA’s brain tumor research program and a range of services that the ABTA provides for brain tumor patients and their families. Last year’s Chicago event attracted more than 4,200 participants and raised nearly $900,000.

The ABTA event includes a chip-timed 5K run, followed by an all-ages 5K walk and 1 mile strut, along with refreshments, music and family-friendly entertainment.

“As our 5K program expands across the country, our Chicago event remains our flagship fundraiser,” notes Katie Purdy, the ABTA’s national director of events. “It reflects the association’s commitment to the Chicago brain tumor community, to furthering brain tumor research, and to providing and pursuing the answers that patients and families everywhere seek.”

Registration for the event is available online at The registration fee is $40 for adults and $20 for children 6-12 years old. Children under 6 may participate for free.
